About This Photograph

Bob Jones won the 1927 British Open and the 1930 British Amateur at Scotland's famous St. Andrews Links. Jones stopped in St. Andrews on his way to Berlin for the 1936 Olympic Games. More than 2,000 townspeople, as well as dozens of photographers, turned out to watch Jones play the Old Course. The original caption of this photo read: "Although he no longer occupies his former lofty pinnacle in the golf world, there is only one Bobby Jones and he's still king of this crowd of children that mobbed the Atlanta Wizard when he appeared at St. Andrews course recently. He was there to play an exhibition game with two British professionals. August 3, 1936."
