About This Photograph

Tiger Woods' uncanny ability to deliver in the clutch was instilled in him at an early age, but fully developed during his amateur days. Woods trailed Steve Scott virtually the entire match of the 36-hole final at the 1996 U.S. Amateur at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club outside Portland, Ore. Scott had a 2-up lead with three to play, only to see Woods rally, holing a cross-country birdie putt at the 35th hole to square the match. Woods won his unprecedented third consecutive Amateur title three holes later. Woods added his three U.S. Amateur titles to the three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur crowns he won from 1991-93. He turned pro a week after the 1996 Amateur and promptly won the 1997 Masters in record fashion. In 2000 at Pebble Beach, he won the first of three U.S. Open titles, posting a 15-stroke triumph.
