About This Photograph

Shinnecock Hills is one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. It hosted the second U.S. Open in 1896, in which James Foulis held off defending champion Horace Rawlins to win. When the U.S. Open returned to Shinnecock in 1986, Raymond Floyd rallied for a two-stroke win over Lanny Wadkins and Chip Beck. Corey Pavin won the championship in 1995 with a memorable approach to the 72nd hole. In 2004, Retief Goosen held off Phil Mickelson for his second U.S. Open triumph.
