About This Photograph

Arnold Palmer called his 1954 U.S. Amateur triumph at the Country Club of Detroit the turning point of his career. Without that victory over Robert Sweeny, Palmer might not have gone on to a distinguished Hall-of-Fame career that included the 1960 U.S. Open, where he shot a final-round 65 to overcome a seven-stroke deficit. Palmer also added four Masters and two British Open titles to his long list of accomplishments.
